Dr. Brillhart is a board-certified emergency medicine physician. He earned his medical degree from the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences and completed his residency in emergency medicine at Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center. He balances his work at Ashai with emergency department shifts across Central Texas. The two ask different things of a physician, and he thinks patients are better served by someone who does both.

He served 24 years in the United States Army, first as an armor officer and later as an emergency physician, in numerous roles with conventional and special operations units across multiple deployments. He is a Purple Heart recipient.

The second half of that career brought his family to Central Texas and kept them here. They put down roots, and they stayed — Texans of the got-here-as-quick-as-we-could variety.

Outside the clinic, he has coached youth football for more than fifteen seasons in Central Texas flag and tackle leagues. He uses sports as a tool to build values and to help young people make the transition from children to young adults.

As Medical Director of Ashai Health, Dr. Brillhart is responsible for the medical services provided here. He sets the clinical protocols the staff follows, oversees the providers who deliver care, and sees patients directly. His view is that a wellness practice should be held to the same standard as any other medical practice — that what’s offered gets explained honestly, that patients understand what a treatment can and cannot do, and that care is built around the person rather than a menu.
